Wow, what can I say about Prize-giving last night. We had an awesome time enjoying company from families, friends to celebrate our hard effort into our school work and in sports. Arriving early seeing students already here from Year 5 to 8 lined up getting ready to go in and sit down, I noticed that there were already a lot of parents here to find there seats. My goose bumps kicked in and and I felt a light chill running through my spine especially because we were the first group to walk in.

At the end of the night I had won some awards and my family was very proud of me. I was also very proud of myself.

Tagata Pasifika Opportunity

For the past 2 weeks I was given the opportunity to present for Tagata Pasifika. It was an awesome opportunity to be given and I couldn't let that chance down. Going from PENN (Pt England News Network) to School TV and now TV 1 for Tagata Pasifika I guess I would say I have accomplished a lot. Maybe with some good grades and a lot of hard work you might find one of our Pt England students presenting for the news in the future. I am very proud of myself.

Tennis

Maria Sharapova is a big icon in Tennis History. Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer are other major icons. I never thought that Tennis would be taught at our school. I didn’t think I was fit enough for it.

Lining up getting ready to go for our first tennis session I thought we were just going to be doing simple skills but these were harder then I thought. Marcelle the instructor taught us some simple techniques. We got into pairs and my partner was Athena. We had to communicate with each other and work as a team. Let’s just say it didn’t go as well as I thought with Athena hitting the ball everywhere.

Soon after we had to get into groups and play a game called King/Queen of the court. It was pretty intense. I was the Queen for only about a minute and was eliminated straight away by Sharon. Sharon was too good for my skills but I didn’t give up their I still had a few techniques up my sleeve. Sharon was still leading but I was determined to beat her. I walked onto that court and used my skills and finally beat Sharon. I did my victory dance, everyone looked at me but I didn’t care I felt like I had just beaten one of the Champions of tennis.

Soon after our session was over I was really sad that it was it was over because I had a lot of fun running around and hitting the ball. I so can’t wait for our next session of tennis and with Marcelle.

Rugby World Cup Finals

Sitting at the end of my seat waiting nervously for the game to start not knowing if the Mighty All Blacks would take it out in the end or having a major upset against the fearsome team France.

As Richie Macaw and Thierry Dusuavtoir (captains of France and All Blacks) led their teams out of the holding rooms and into the end of the tunnel where they would experience the last 80min of the Rugby World Cup and battle out in the final for that William Webb Eliss cup. Lining up together you could see the determination of both teams eagerly wanting to win that cup and take it out to make their country proud. Soon as both teams came out the camera went straight to the crowd, you could see a sea of white and black backing up the All Blacks. Excitement was really in the air.

After the National anthem both teams ran out onto the field as the All Blacks were getting ready to perform the Haka. The Haka was led by Piri Weepu the scrum-half. The All Blacks performed the haka with pride and dignity. But the french weren’t afraid to put up a good battle.

The whistle blew and Piri Weepu kicked off to the french. That’s when I knew that the game was going to be really intense. Seconds after seconds then minutes after minutes nobody was scoring. I guess my parents finally knew I was quite not together with me screaming and yelling at the T.V yelling “pass the ball or are you serious reff” I guess I couldn’t help it. Finally the All Blacks tried. An outstanding try by Tony Woodcock. It was amazing. In the second half France scored but that wasn’t enough for them to win the Webb Eliss Cup and take it out.

Richie Mccaw led his team to victory and was very proud of his boys. They made history. It has been 24 years since the Rugby World Cup has been to New Zealand and 24 years since they have won it.

Term 3 Highlight

Term 3 brings good memories to me. With a lot of sports and the Rugby World cup on at the same time.

One of my favourite highlights for the term was Badminton.It was my favourite sport for the term using different techniques and strategies used in this kind of sport. Badminton was taken by a lady named Lorene and she was a professional at it. All the techniques that she taught us really paid off in our final session where we could play against eachother. It also really worked if we were playing sports like tennis and other sports that includes Rackets.I had a lot of fun learning a new sport that I had never played before.

Another highlight for term 3 was sports.Even though my mum didn't really approve of me playing sports because she wants me to focus on school work it didn't really stop me. Basketball is a sport I really love. Our basketball tournament was an awesome experience with us winning all our game and coming 3rd in the end. It was a massive improvement since last year and the best thing about it we placed higher than the boys. So that made my day.

For my last highlight and this highlight ticked all the boxes was the Rugby World Cup coming to New Zealand for the second time in history. The games kicked off 3 weeks ago with the pacific Islanders Tonga and the Mighty All Blacks. So far each team has had all their games or have 1 more game left until the Quarter Final. The Opening Ceremony was the best one I have ever seen in my life. It ticked all the boxes and I think it was the best one ever seen before for the Rugby World Cup.

I have really enjoyed this term and I hope next term will be as great as this term was. Next termk is my last term until I leave so I better make the most of it.

Samoa vs Namibia

As the 2 competitive teams came out together from the tunnel. Samoa and Namibia soon found them selves being cheered from the crowds. A sea of Blue and red stood out from the crowd, as the crowd were cheering and shouting out “GO SAMOA”.

Khan “THE MAN” Fotuali’i delivered an outstanding try in the first 60 seconds of the match that made the Samoan fans rise to their feet . He made history in the Rugby World Cup. Soon after the Samoan Bulldozer Alesana Tuilagi scored an impressive hatrick against Namibia. Namibia soon saw Alesana Tuilagi as a threat every time he had the ball, but that didn’t stop Alesana.

Mahonri Schwalger (the captain) was determined to lead his team to victory and he did, with Samoa scoring another try made by Paul Williams after he was sin binned for a high tackle. Namibia didn’t give up with them scoring 2 tries. At the end of the game Samoa took it out 49-12 .

Black out Day for the All Blacks

Have you ever heard of a Black out day? Well today at our school we had a black out day to celebrate the RWC (Rugby World Cup). Today is a very important day for New Zealand because we are holding the Rugby world Cup and the kick off is tonight. This black out day was to show our support to the All Blacks by wearing All Black. A whole heap of students dressed up for it and some weren’t bothered to.

Silly Sports Day

On a normal day we would be doing work. But on Tuesday we had a day where we could play silly sport. Lining up in the street. Getting ready to head off to the bottom field. We were about to have a to have a silly sport day. This fun event was during the middle block on our bottom field in our school grounds. Most people were excited and the rest just couldn’t be bothered. But I did because I wanted to get wet.

Our first activity was with Mrs Lagitupu our very own teacher. She was taking ball tiggy. We were divided into groups of 4. I was in the the colour blue. This game was all about communicating with each other and team work. Netball and rugby skills really paid off in the game. We were dodging the ball and also throwing the ball at each other and putting up targets. We had a lot of fun playing against each other.

Our second activity was with Ms Tito. She had a massive slingshot and had different sized bouncing balls. We had to line up and stand up one by one to have our turn. The aim of the game was accuracy and if we got the ball into a hoop we would get 50 points. While I was standing there getting ready to fire the ball, I could feel the adrenalin pumping and I could hear the support of my friends. Sadly the ball didn’t land in the hoops. But unfortunately none of us got a single ball in the hoop but still managed to get 10 in points.

Moving on from Ms Tito’s game we were soon with Mr Harris. We had to get into partners and tie a rope at the bottom of our legs and hold a spoon with a tennis ball on it. My partner was Sela. We started our activity. Sela and I walked off and and we were so concentrated that we made it around the cone. As we were almost at the finish line we could feel the pressure to finish that race. Unfortunately we dropped the tennis ball right at the finish line and we couldn’t move on in to the grand finals. We were full of disappointment but at least we had tried our hardest. Moses and Casey were just to good and they moved on to the grand finals.

Mrs Nua was our last rotation and this was my most exciting sport because we could finally get wet. Mrs Nua gave us the instructions and put us into teams and in groups of 6 or 7. It was a sponge race to see who could be the fastest team and the most successful team. My team didn’t win but we still tried our best. It was a lot of fun.

At our of all days this week Tuesday was my favourite day because we had a lot ofs fun and enjoyed ourselves a lot. Plus the teachers couldn't of pick better games. Can’t wait until another silly sports day.

Life Education Caravan

During the past 3 weeks we have been going to the Life Education Caravan with Harold the Giraffe and Lynn. They have been to our school before and they were back again to teach us more stuff about our bodies and about Puberty. Our class has been there 3 times on Thursday and have learnt a lot through those weeks. Now I know which drugs are illegal and legal for our bodies and that there are seven stages until you are a mature adult. I have learnt a lot from the past few years that they have been here. I will miss Harold and hopefully get to see him again.

Cross Country

Eying up the finish line, I was determined to finish the race in style. But let me take you back to the beginning of the race. As the year 7 and 8's assembled onto the hard court in our groups we were soon finding ourselves cold and nervous. Group after group it was soon our turn to walk to that starting line and race. This event happens every year.

While running I was soon cutting girls and getting very tired to run. I just wanted to walk and give up. But I just pushed myself to keep on running. After compeleting the first kilometer I soon realized that I was puffing and dehydrated.All I wanted was just to stop and faint. A time after I soon had completed my 3km run and was almost at that finish line

Standing at the line, looking at the girls faces, some determined to come first and some just don't want to run at all. While waiting for the clapper to go my adrenalin was pumping and my heart beating really fast. All you hear is the word 'On your marks ,get set and go' and off we were running to the first cone

Like I said before in my previous paragraph 'Eying up the finish line, I was determined to finish the race in style'. That finish line and hearing people cheer for me while I was running up just pushed me to that finish that race. That run was an awesome obstacle course and well I don't want to run it ever again.

Holiday Highlight

Man my holidays were boring. There was nothing to do but just stay home, watch T.V and sleep. During the first week of the holidays we were offered a job by Mrs Flavelle to do a Barista job on a Saturday morning at our very own school. This job wasn’t like school where we don’t get paid because this time we actually got paid. We were serving coffee to the Labour Party and we were even lucky enough to meet Phil Goff the leader of the party.

Helen and I both arrived at school at ten to 8 because our job started at 8am. The coffee machine was already set up and was ready for us to operate it. Mrs Flavelle was already organised with the milk in the fridge, the coffee beans out, fresh cups and lids already up where they were supposed to be and the cash box already waiting for us. Soon after people started arriving to buy coffees.

As they were arriving in to buy coffee we were soon earning a lot of money. People started packing up wanting to buy coffee from our store. It was like a pack of animals in there. It was really hard because one of us had to take orders and the other one had to make coffee. It was also very hard because we didn’t know if people wanted sugar in the coffee or wanted trim or normal milk. It was really intense.

At the end of the day we had made a lot of money, had a great time making coffee and meeting new people. Hopefully there will be another job in the next holidays.

Team 5 Assembly

Every Tuesday and Thursday the Intermediate block have a Team 5 assembly where all our classes meet up in the street and have reminders about our area and what goes on around our school. We are very fortunate to have these assemblies twice a week.

Mr Burt normally comes in to talk to us.Today he came into our assembly and talked to us about different types of things. The last thing he talked about before he left was that we shouldn’t be saying that we are a poor area around NZ because we are richer than some countries overseas. For example Mr Burt told us when he was overseas he visited a school and the school was broken down. He also mentioned that two third of kids in the world go to sleep hungry at night.

Now that Mr Burt has told us that, I think that we are one of the best schools in the world because we have a good education and get to use some great technology like our netbooks. We also have fantastic teacher that teaches us everyday and an awesome Principal. We are very grateful to have this kind of education and great opportunities.

Term 2 Highlight

Term 2 has a lot of awesome highlights in it. So many things to participate in like different types of sports like soccer, rugby, netball and many more different kinds of sports. We also do a lot of learning through this past term with our netbooks.

One of my favourite highlight this term was of course the sports. Sports are a big hobby of mine. A sport I joined in the beginning of this term was soccer. This was the first time we had ever entered a soccer competition. Our coach was the awesome Rm 19 teacher Mr Harris. Our boys also entered. Another sport I joined is netball. We play netball every Tuesday and our coach is Missy. So far we are doing alright but we need more practice.

Another highlight of mine I am making movies. We had a lot of fun making the movie but sometimes it would be a lot pressure by Mrs Lagitupu yelling at us to get it done. But all that yelling paid off at the end. It paid off because when it was time to go to the awards which was held by Auckland Museum we won Best Storytelling and the Supreme Award. Our prize a digital video camera, a few USB’s and a video camera. It was a lot of fun.

My last highlight for Term 2 was Taoga Time with Mrs Nua. With her we learnt how to speak Japanese and how to pronounce the mihi in Maori. We learnt how to count and to say hello, good afternoon, and many more with Mrs Nua. Just last week Mrs Nua’s sister Mrs London came to our school to teach how to speak Japanese. She was an expert and was excellent at speaking that language. She taught us a lot of things for example things like our body part, using chop sticks and many more. Taoga Time this term was AWESOME.

This term has been an awesome term for me and can’t wait for next term.

Tamaki Tech

Every Monday we head down to Tamaki College for Technology. We go to Tamaki College to build up our technology knowledge and skills, and to experience what it is like to have technology at a college.

We each have 5 groups and of course we don’t stay in the same class every term we rotate. Each different groups are all about different subjects and they each have things to do with technology. The groups are Science, Electronics, Food Tech, Graphics and Wood Tech. We don’t stay in that for a whole year we rotate every term to a different subject. This term I am in Science with Mr Duwan.

In Mr Duwan’s class we learn about interesting things like for the past few weeks we have been learning about acids, chemicals, and that the main thing about science is investigating a problem. Knowledge is also a big part of science because we have to know a lot of things to became a scientist like Albert Einstein. As well as sitting there and learning we also do experiments with dangerous equipment like a Bunsen burner and many more stuff.

Today was our last day with Mr Duwan because next week we are heading off to Food tech to handle dangerous equipment with Mrs Heka (hahahahahahahahah just joking).I am very thrilled because I love Food Tech.

Japan Presentation

This term in Taoga time, we have been learning how to say a mihi in Maori and how to pronounce the words probably. As well as doing mihi’s we also learning Japanese. We already know how to count in Japanese and also know how to say Hi, Good Morning, Good afternoon, Good Evening, Bye and many more cool things. Our taoga time class is taken by one of our teacher Mrs Nua. As part of our class we have to make a presentation and put it on our blog. I chose to draw a flag of Japan. your rice. This is an old Japanese custom and is what is done when food is off

Cellphones

Cellphones are great devices to use during this mordern world. There are a lot of different brand for example like the Samsung, Vodafone, LG and many more. Cellphones haven’t been around for very long. First they started out being really big and being called bricks. Several years later they ended up being small.

These devices are very useful for texting and calling people at any time. You can let people know what you are up to any time of day. A lot of people especially teenagers have cellphone. They are very addictive and great to carry around in your handbag or in your pocket.

These brand new invention have awesome features to it. For example they have games, Music, photo’s and much more. Cellphones are invented recently and many years ago. The 21st century is a year with brand new technology

The cost these are very expensive. Some cellphones cost hundreds and thousands. But the cheapest are between 50 dollars and 100 dollars. I think cellphones are expensive but are worth it. Plus they are great devices.

Cellphones are great sources to use.

Technology

This argument is to tell people how Technology has improved in our lives.
Technology has made a massive improvement to our lives, making lives easier, things being ‘Bigger, Better, Faster, and Stronger’ and of course saving a lot of time. Without these new inventions the world would still look like it was black and white from the olden days.

Life is much easier now. For example if we look back at how our lives were before the washing machine was invented it was difficult. Having to take up your time washing and drying. Now our lives are much easier and now we have time to relax and have better things to do. Washing machines are great to use for any type of clothing.

Another example we could look at is the dishwasher. It’s just like the washing machine but it cleans cutlery not clothing. Also it doesn’t take up your time. Like other inventions.

Technology is also used for entertainment. Play stations and X-Boxes are some of the entertaining technology that kids like to play. T.V is a great source of entertainment for any ages to baby’s all the way up to the elderly. These inventions are very entertaining as well as being addictive for a lot of people. Nowadays T.V has taken the world by storm with a lot of amazing new channels.

Not only is technology entertaining it also makes life a lot easier for a lot of people. Like I said before in my previous paragraph life is so much easier. To some people life is so much better with these new inventions and others just prefer to do something else than watch T.V. Teenagers and kids prefer to have a easier life than having a hard one.

To sum this all up technology has had a massive improvement to our generation and lives. We love technology especially our parents and teenagers. Technology has taken our lives to a brand new level.

Immersion Rotation

Well since Term 2 started our theme this term was based around things being BIGGER, BETTER, FASTER and STRONGER. We had the opportunity to experience ideas about our topic and understand what they really mean.

Our first rotation was with our own teacher Mrs Lagitupu. She had the chance to teach us what Imagination means. So we had a Bus Stop activity and we had to use our imagination, that was all part of the plan. Our second activity was creating our own imaginary pet called a Zinger Pinger. We also got to draw an imaginary island for our imaginary pet. We had a lot of fun.

Creativity was our second rotation. We had Miss Tito as our teacher for the hour. During that time we had to design our name in not just an ordinary way, but by being creative. Miss Tito gave us a few ideas and said that the winner of this competition will get to fire water balloons at their class and of course at their teacher.

Our last rotation was with Mrs Nua. Mrs Nua took discovery. For our activity we had to discover different things. For example we had to create a something to support the egg from cracking. We only had 8 ice block sticks, 10 straws and 2 or 3 masking tape. We had a certain time to complete this task. In my group was Pesi, Athena and I. We had to drop our egg from Mrs Nua’s shoulder. Our egg dropped and cracked. But it was all worth it.

We had an awesome time experiencing all those ideas with all our team 5 teachers.

My Zinger Pinger

My Zinger Pinger is the best pet in the world because he is big and is very sporty. His name is Pauly D. He is a great football player and loves playing sports. In his spare time he likes to hang out with his friends and watch movies. Pauly D’s favourite colours are Green, Purple and Yellow. His favourite take out is Buger King and Mc D’s. Glee Performance

Well today in Assembly our school was amazed by the fantastic Glee Cast. They entertained us with two dances that were dedicated to our school. Ms M the founder and director of Glee introduced this amazing opportunity to our school in the beginning of Term 1. Ms M and some of the teachers choreographed these two dances.

The 2 dances represent the Pt England Way and the students of our school. There are a lot of action like different things that happen in and around Pt England. For example like people playing sports or people dancing in the background in their culture and people. Camp Reflection

Camp was here and there nothing much more to do but to get to school to see my friends and to start a brand new day at camp TC [Take Charge].

As always we have camp every year which is held at Pt England School . We always have a theme and this year it was Take Charge. Our camp was very different and special because normally we have camp on Wednesday to Friday but now our school is too big to fit the year 5 and 6 team. This camp was very special because it was our last year (Year 8) and we had to make the most of it.

We were split into 6 groups. They were called the Motivatorz, Thinkerz, Carez, Responsiblez, Respectablez, Participatorz. My group was called the Motivatorz. Sione and I were the leaders for Motivatorz. It felt great to be a leader because I had the opportunity to lead my group.

We had a lot of fun doing our activity rotation like Kayaking with Mr Burt, and playing cool games with Mr Harris and Mr Barks. There were 6 activities that had already been prepared for us.Our first activity was with Mrs Nua. We had a lot of fun with Mrs Nua building our tents to sleep in. But that was just the beginning of Camp.

One of my favourite activities was when Rock Up came to Pt England School. Rock Up is a Company that goes around NZ with activities for kids to enjoy. There were plenty of activities to do such as the Dunker and many more. Before we started we were split into 15 groups. Sargent Jeff told us to make up a name for your group. Our group name was Yankees Shores and there were 9 people in our group.

My Camp Highlight for Camp TC was the dunker that Rock Up bought to our school. The Dunker was our first activity. We had done it last year and I enjoyed it to the max!! As I climbed up the ladder to sit on the plank, I could feel butterflies floating around like crazy in my stomach. Thoughts like ‘will I get out on the first go’ were racing through my head. I perched myself upon the plank and the other group took their first shot. “YES” I sighed with relief as they missed the target. They took another shot and another until finally someone got the target and SPLASH I went into the nice cool pool of water.

Overall Camp TC was the best camp so far for me at Pt England. I really enjoyed every moment of it. I think that I performed well as a leader. I was proud to be part of the winning team overall at Rock up. I'm going to miss this Camp.

How to put up a tent-Procedure

How to put up a tent.

When a tent is put up correctly it will be ready for people to sleep in and to camp out in. If you do not know how to put up a tent here are some instructions. The whole point of this is so that you can use it when going camping outdoors and you will be able to sleep in your tent.

Materials/equipment that you will need:
Tent Base
Poles
Hammer/ Mallet
Pegs
Cover
Tent Bag.

Method: Here are some steps.

Step 1. Check to make sure that you have all the equipment that is shown above.

Step 2. Begin to unpack the equipment out of the bag .

Step 3. Lay out the base of your tent on a grassy area. Put some pegs in the corners of the base. Hammer the pegs into the ground.

Step 4. Connect the poles together and attach it diagonally on to the sides. Then thread the poles through the hole and then clip them.

Step 5. Once you are finished with the clipping, there should be a string right at the top of the tent. Tie it to the poles. This should help keep your tent strong and ensure that it will not fly away.

Step 6. Place the waterproof cover over the tent and once again hammer the pegs to attach the cover to the ground.

Step 7. Last but not least zip up your tent so that nothing can get in.

That is how you put up a tent if you are going outdoor camping or just want to sleep outside.

Christchurch Earthquake.

A week ago there was some horrible news reported directly from Christchurch that there had been an earthquake that had hit the city. Reporters said that it is very sad because a lot of people have lost their loved ones in this tragic natural disaster. There have been a lot of people who are worried about their families and their colleagues who are trapped underneath these buildings. People are leaving Christchurch and saying that they have had enough.

The earthquake struck at noon bringing down the famous ancient Cathedral Square and more buildings. As the earthquake was destroying Canterbury there was debris everywhere and tears and terror in most people eyes as they were running for their lives. Devastation was everywhere. The magnitude was 6.3 and the depth was 5km. This earthquake wasn’t as big as the one in September, but the impact was worse.

People are homeless and some people are living in tents, the parks and sleeping in their cars. School have closed down until further notice. This disaster has been called as our darkest day. People have been found injured and some dead. Rescue workers have worked night and day to try and find the trapped people underneath the buildings. So many aftershocks have struck so many times in Christchurch.

Our hearts and prayers goes out to the families who have lost their loved ones, the families of the people who are trapped and to the kids who have lost their schools.

Athletics Day

‘’Next’’ Mr Jacobson (the tall one) said, as I stood up walked up to the mark with the Discuss in my hand and getting ready to throw it. I was so glad when Mr Jacobson said that I had won 3rd place I was so happy.

The day had began and our school was so busy competing in our age groups to see who was going to come out on top. This was an annual event held out on our school field. We have 4 different teams Tainui, Te Arawa, Takitimu and Matatua. We all compete to see which team is the best.

The 12 year old girls and the 11 year old girls set off to where the softball was been held. I stepped up to the mark and now the tension was growing when people were saying ‘’go Tia’’. I threw the ball as hard as I could. Sadly I didn’t win a place in the top 3. Helen Tui came 1st, Mauina came 2nd and 3rd place was awarded to Tracey.

My highlight of the day was Javelin. It was my first time trying this new activity out and my nerves were building up. Mr Barks taught us how to throw the javelin. This is was the very first time we had ever tried out this new sport at Pt England school. This sport was introduced to us by Mr and Mrs Barks. I was really nervous as I stepped up to throw the javelin. I threw the javelin still not knowing what to do. Sadly I still did not win a place.

It was the last event of our athletics day and it was time for the final relays against our houses. The house captains and the teachers had to pick the fastest top 8 to compete in this final relays. As the relays were about to start I could see the teams determined to win this final relays for their team. Takitimu came 1st, Tainui 2nd, 3rd Matatua and Te Arawa came fourth.

I really enjoyed athletics this year and had a lot of fun participating in all of the events. Now we know who the top athletes are and now they move on to their Inter-zones. Hopefully they try their best and come out on top as our best athletes and win for Pt England.

All about Me

Talofa Lava, Malo e lelei, Kia Ora and Hi my name is Paulitia Peleti. I am 12 years of age moving onto being 13 in about 3 months. I was born on May 16th 1998. I am samoan but I live in Auckland NZ.

There are currently 8 people in my family my Parents, my 3 brothers, sister in law and my gorgeous little nephew. They are all important in my life. As a family we like to watch t.v and watch rugby.

My hobbies are Eating, Sleeping, Sports and more eating. My favourite foods are Burger King, Chocolate, KFC, Butter Chicken, Mc Donald, Pizza and Island Food. My favourite sports are Netball, Samoan Cricket, Rugby Sevens, Volley Ball and Basket Ball.

Spending time with my family with my family is the best. The thing I like to do with my family is travel to Samoa and go to the park. Playing games and enjoying having a BBQ is awesome . But spending time with my friends is the best. There names are Sela, Helen, Destiney and Kezia.

In the future I would either like to be a Food Critic or to be a teacher. I want to be a Food Critic because I get to taste the awesome food. Hopefully it happens in the future.

Giant Cockroaches

Cockroaches are very interesting bugs. They live in the Australian Outback where it is very hot. Cockroaches like to live under ground to keep cool and they only come out when it rains. These live bugs are 3 inches and only live up to 10 years. What’s unusual about this is that others lay eggs but the mum just gives birth. They only come out to mate, meet and move on.

Our brand new netbooks

This is the worst holidays ever man. There was nothing to do but just stay home and wait until Friday night.

Yay Friday night had finally arrived and I was so excited that I couldn’t even sit still on my chair at home. We were ready to go and have an awesome night and of course have a lot of fun. I was filled with nothing but excitement.

We arrived at happy days in Manukau and I said to myself this is just the beginning of an amazing night and of course I was right. I stepped outside and the smell of steak wafted towards me as I approached the front door. Man I really couldn’t wait until it was time to eat.

Normally it would of been all about me but not tonight. Tonight was all about my sister in law Naomi because we were celebrating her 21st birthday. I ran through the doors with the biggest smile on my face when realized that the birthday girl hadn’t even arrived and they were still decorating. I was really sad.

She walked in not knowing what was happening because it was a surprise party. We sang happy birthday to her. There always has to be food there so I raced up to where they had put the food. The first thing I had grabbed was the Butter Chicken and the chips. It was so nice. The last thing we did that night was eat the cake, it was Mud cake.

That was the best night of my holidays ever.

Jesse Martin

Jesse Martin

In 1999 Jesse Martin was just an ordinary boy living in Australia who had a dream to become the youngest person to circumnavigate around the globe. Before his journey people didn’t believe that he could do it but it made him more determined and motivated to achieve his dream. After a lot of preparation, thought and planning Jesse Martin set off to prove to people that he could do it.

Before Journey

Before he set off to achieve his dream Jesse had no experience of using a boat.But before that Jesse had 3 years of living sailing on sea. He had never taken a boat onto the ocean ever before. He knew nothing about sailing but he still believed in himself.

During Journey

During his journey he read books in his free time and had a shower outside in the rain. He would have radio conversations with his family and told his mum that he had been crying when he reached and past New Zealand. Jesse sailed for 11 months.

Arrivals

Jesse had finally arrived after a 11 month journey around the world. He sailed into Melbourne on October 31st in front of 20,000 people and was known as the youngest person to sail around the world.He had finally achieved his long time dream.

Conclusion

I think that Jesse Martin is a determined and a motivated person. I think that without the help of his mum he wouldn’t be here today. he is an awesome and a hardworking person and will always be a champion.

Loosing our Game

My heart was pounding with excitement waiting to play against Baradene 5 and waiting to have fun and play a good game.

As we arrived with our 2 coaches (Missy and Mrs Tele'a) we saw our other team warming up for their game. It was time for our team Aces to play against Holy Cross. They won thier game. The score was 13-10. Our girls played a hard and a fair game.

It was finally time for my team which was called P.E.S. Crew 2 to play. I was put in WA (wing attack) but my normal position it WD (wing defence) but I was very happy to play wing attack. The whistle blew and it was time to play. At the end - sadly we lost but we still tried our best. It's alright because we can aim to be better next time.

Thanks to Baradene for giving us a tough game and also thanks to Missy and Mrs Tele'a.

Urban Beat

2 weeks ago we had a very cool camp called Camp Kindness. We had a lot of fun and we also had very cool activities lined up for us.

On Thursday we were lead into the hall by our wonderful teachers. We didn't know what was happening it was a surprise. You could hear the music pumping as we walked in. There were 6 people waiting for us. Their group was called Urban Beat. Urban Beat is a group made up of 6 people. They are a talented bunch of dancers. We were very lucky because they were going to teach us very cool routines. Then we started dancing.

Boom Boom as the music started pumping we were dancing. Not only were we learning we also got to show off our moves. Laurence aka Lolo and Tui showed us really neat routines. First we did a warm up to the song of 'Blame it on the Boogie' by Michael Jackson and then we speed things up to the song of Take your shirt off by T-Pain. The year 7's were very fast learners. Near the end we had a dance battle Boys vs Girls - boy was it funny. But in the end I think the Girls won.

Having Urban Beat at our school was the best experience ever.

Tuakana Teina

Last week we got spilt up into 4 different groups for Tuakana Teina. Tuakana Teina is a project. The project is about the year 7's working with the year 1's. It was our very first time working with the little ones and helping them with there E-learning task. It was very exciting.

Before we got sent off Mrs Burt was teaching us some very useful things when we are working with the little ones. We were finally sent off. One of the groups went to music for Half an hour while the other groups went to Rm 1, 2 and 3. We were all very keen.

My group went to Rm 1 on the second half of the session. My first student was a little boy who was a very talented drawers. They all had to draw a picture of themselves. It was very cool seeing them become better artist.

Tech at Tamaki College

It was a sunny hot day when we went walking to Tamaki College for our very first tech session. As we were walking Mrs Nua was haranguing us to hurry up. As we arrived there were a lot of Tamaki College kids wondering around.

There were 3 teachers waiting for us. One of the teachers toke Group One for Cooking. The other teacher toke wood works[ Hard Materials] and the teacher toke graphics. There were a lot of things in stored for us.

We toke wood with Sir Grundy. It was quite boring in the 1st half of the session but when we had to draw I was then really Interested. Mr Grundy showed us cool demonstration and gave us a lot of cool ideas. I didn't know what to draw about until Ms T gave me an idea of drawing a jandal. Sir Grundy said "Go wild" so I added wheels to my cool jandal. He was so funny.

It was actually a great start for our very first Tech session at Tamaki College.

Bungy Jumping

"You can do this Tia", "You can do this Tia" I said to myself panicking. Can you believe it!!!!! I'm going to jump of a 40m bridge. I have got to do it.

My legs were tied up as if I was being Kidnapped. The man told me to shuffle to the edge of the bridge. It was terrifying but it was either jump or waste my money. It was a leap of faith. I was having second thoughts "should I jump?" Looking down was even worse. It felt like jumping of the sky tower but the sky tower is way taller than the bridge. It was time to jump.

AHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!! as I was screaming hanging up side down, bouncing up and down and having goosebumps and butterflies in my stomach. Boy was it scary I couldn't even feel my legs I just felt numb.

Once I had my feet on firm ground I was really speechless the only words that came out of my mouth were I'm never doing that again.

First Assembly for 2010

As I walked through the doors everybody was glaring at us as if we were celebrity's walking down the red carpet. It was the first time this year having a school Assembly with the year 7s. " Welcome Back!" Mr Burt shouted with a happy tone in his voice.

Can you believe it we had a STRANGE award from Dr Strange over in America in Alabama. Mr Strange is an University teacher . Rm 10 had the chance to speak with him. Rm 10 was so lucky to have the opportunity to teach his class about blogging . So Rm 10 became the teachers. Mr Burt asked the old Rm 10 to stand and the old Rm 18 to stand up to. I was really shocked I didn't know why we had to stand up. Until Mr Burt said that Mr Stranger had used our movie for an example. Mr Strange said THANK YOU by giving us $250 dollars in US money . It was a great start for the first Assembly of the year.

Being a Presenter

This year was an awesome year for me being a presenter and for presenting in front of hundreds and thousands of visitors
like; Close Up and principals from Australia, and all over the world. As a presenter it wasn't really easy trying to not make a mistakes on your part.
My subject was schoolTV. I had to talk about how long School T.V was and who produces and who was the person that was behind all of it which was Mr and Mrs Burt.
Presenting is the best job you could ever have.

The Thrilling Trolls

'' Come on Trolls do your thing'', JP the Indian said in a spooky voice. Yep it was the last night of our school production and it was also the last time we performed my favourite dance "THRILLER".

After the Indian said those words they (the main characters) all cleared off the stage. It was really dark. The fun thing was creeping onto the stage like a real troll with our costumes on. Trying to scare the little kids was my number one goal because I wanted to see if we could but it didn't work at all. Putting on a scary face was really hard because everytime I looked at someone I knew they would always make me laugh. I just couldn't help it.

It was 'show time' for our group because it was time to show off our funky moves to the crowd. Everyone was quiet but then the music began and we started dancing. Everyone was cheering for us. Move after move after move there was more cheering. They just wouldn't stop. I felt really confident after a while because in the beginning I was really anxious. The chorus was the best because we were showing our Michael Jackson moves to everyone. The cheering didn't stop there either. It felt like we were famous 'Super Stars' walking down the red carpet. The Thriller dance was over for the night and we walked off like dead Zombies.

It was both a sad and wonderful night for us. Wonderful because it was the best night ever, sad because it was our last performance.

Fathers Day

2 weeks ago was fathers day. It was very exciting. All I could think about was all the lollies my dad was going to receive. We dressed up in our fancy clothes and got ready for church.

It was around 9 and we jumped in the car and left for church. We got there and all the men's were inside in there uniforms. They were very handsome in their suits. They were all different sizes but the same colour Cream.

It was bang on 10 when they had the opening for our ceremony. What I mean by ceremony was that we had a very special curtain that our pastors wife had to cut it open. It was very cool.

Then the fathers did there 4 items. At the end the kids had to give the lays to there dad. It was the best day for my dad.

The Cross Country race

Last week on Thursday was a blast because we had our school cross country. It was a very interesting at first.

After a few waits it was our turn. The 11 year olds. But we couldn't run because there weren't enough girls to race. So instead we had to run with the 11 year old boys. I was very nervous when Mr Burt said that. But Mr Burt said that the girls are racing with the girls and the boys have to race with the boys. I was very pleased.

Mr Burt told us to stand up so we did. He had 2 blocks in his hands and he snapped them together. That was the signal to start. We raced off. We just started and I could feel my heart bumping as I was running. I got to the gate and I felt like fainting because my legs were sore already and I needed water. But I kept on going. I sprinted at first and then started to jog with Helen and Kezia. We went past the toilets and then past Ms Tito. Sela was about 3 inches in front of me.

When we were almost there I started sprinting to the end and Sela was behind me. I gave it my all. I tried my best and I made it to the end. The best thing was that I finished the race in 7th place. I am so happy that I made it to the finish line.

Conference with Hamish Campbell

This morning we had a very special video conference with the man himself Hamish Campbell. If you don't know who Hamish Campbell is, he is a famous Geologist and a paleontologist too. We talked to him about the Fiordland earthquake that happened last month on the 16th of July in the South Island.

Anyway Hamish Campbell told us that earthquakes were very dangerous. Why? because he said in 1976 in China there was a big earthquake. It happened so quickly that it only lasted for 15 seconds. It was super fast and 242,000 people died. The people died because their houses collapsed on them. Luckily nobody died here.

The other thing Hamish talked about was the seismometer. Hamish talked about how the seismometer or what he called an instrument worked. He said "that the seismometer helps measure and records the shaking of the ground''. We made a seismometer too, but it wasn't as good as the real ones. We took one so we could showoff our awesome seismometer. While he was talking we asked him if he knew what we built. He guessed a seismometer and guess what he was right.

A little while he had some sad news for us. That the dinosaur lady who is known as Joan Wiffen has died at the age of 87. Isn't that sad. She was the first lady ever in New Zealand to find the dinosaur bone here at New Zealand. Hamish Campbell was so lucky that he got the opportunity to go to her funeral.

I would really like to say thank to Diana-Grace and Hamish Campbell for our opportunity to get talk to him once again. Also I would like to thank Te Papa museum for our chance to talk to Mr Hamish Campbell. Thank you so much.

Wednesday the 24 of June. The extension group and Rm15 and also Rm 14 and Rm 16 went to the Auckland War Memorial museum. We went there because it was part of our topic. Our topic this term is all about Dinosaurs like the T-Rex and the Diplodocus.

As always we hopped on the bus early in the morning around 9 am and went to the Auckland Museum. It took about half an hour to get there. It was a bumpy ride to get there. Once we were there everybody was pleased that we were there. The Museum was beautiful, it was huge and amazing. When we arrived there were 2 other schools there but I don't know what their school names were. It was a primary school and a college. I think they were on their trip.

Room 14 walked in first and then us [extension] and room 15 walked inside, sat down and got placed into groups. There were only 2 parent helpers. Sela's brother Havea and my big brother Peleti. My brother's group was Me, Helen Tui , Kezia, Blessing and Moses. There were 5 of us. Our first activity was actually meant to be finding things but we got in late because the other school went in first. So we just explored the whole entire room. It was really amazing. There were all these birds and these crayfish. I just wanted to put my hand in there and grab that crayfish but I think it wasn't real and anyway it was glass so I couldn't actually break it, it was too strong.

Soon after we had our morning tea. We grabbed our food that was locked away because we couldn't eat inside so we went outside to have our morning tea. After we had our morning tea we had 20 minutes to play before our next activity. We played tiggy, running and many other games. It was really embarrassing because I fell down.

We got inside and we had to walk about 25 stairs just to get upstairs to have our lessons. We got upstairs and we met this man named Paul who was going to teach us about dinosaur fossils. About 20 minutes later we had to get into our groups and do activities. Our activity was trying to figure out what fossil or bone we had. One of the groups had a T-Rex poo so it was funny. Once we finished our lesson we did another activity and that was our last one too. Our last activity was answering in pairs the Questions on the paper and it was kind of hard. Soon after that we lined up and went back to the front.

Then we hopped on the bus and left the museum and went back to school. It was a hot day so some people slept on the bus. We got back to school and had our lunch.

Dino Might

This term we are learning about Dinosaurs. The only animal left alive that is related to
a dinosaurs is a lizard. They have been extinct for over 65 million years ago. They are different sizes. On the first day of term we had an Immersion Assembly.It was an amazing Assembly because the teachers were dressed up in different types of clothes to do with our topic Dino Might.

They were dressed up in different costume like Mr Burt and Miss Vafusuaga, Mrs She and Miss Glaze. Miss Vafusuaga and Mrs She and Mrs Glaze did a rap they didn't actually sing but they danced to the music. I was all about dinosaurs. In there movie was all kinds of dinosaurs like Brontosaurs and T Rex and so much more dinosaurs. They were my best group and there were so funny. They were team 2.

Rock Our World task.

This term in extension we are studying favourite food.

The first thing we did was a survey to find out what kind of food people liked. From this survey I found out that people were interested in fatty food.

R.O.W (Rock our World) is also studying food. They gave us 3 types of food to use in an easy simple recipe. The food was Potato, Banana and Rice. We had to come up with a certain recipe. The next recipe that we are doing right now is any recipe like your favourite food or any other food. It is part of our Rock Our World project. We did this project because people might be interested in finding out what our recipes were for potato, banana and rice and our favourite food.

Mrs Tele'a put us into groups of 3 and 2. We had to find out where our restaurant came from and what the capital was. Google Earth helped me to find out what was the capital city of the country I was studying. They also helped me to find out where the country was. This why I had to use Google Earth.

I also had to use Flickr because maybe people wanted to know me better. We did it because it was part of our project. We did this because people could see our work all over the world. We also did this to show who we are and what culture we are and what represents us. Our whole Extension group has a flickr page online. Flickr was a big help because if it wasn't for them we wouldn't have our page. I did this because people from R.O.W could see my page. This is why I used flickr.

Finding Out.

Yesterday afternoon when I walked into class I sat down and then I saw Mrs Burt come in. I felt very nervous when she handed over the paper to Mrs Lagitupu. There was a lot of things going through my head because I didn't know if I had made it into extension. Mrs Lagitupu sat down in her chair and told us about how to get into extension. At first I was very nervous then I cooled down a bit. Like about 1 minute later Mrs Lagitupu announced my name, Helen Tuipoloa and Moses. I was so surprised. I couldn't believe it.

I went and did my work. I was so happy that I had made it in . In my mind I was jumping around but I didn't want to do it because it would have been embarrassing. But I was so surprised when I found out that Moses was in extension because for someone who has never been to extension before exactly made it in. But he was very happy. I think that Helen Tuipoloa and Moses are happy that they made it.

Last last Friday morning when I walked through the door my eyes went all over the place looking for the trophy. As my eyes went all over the place I heard somebody say ''hey look there is the trophy - it is on the stage''. I quickly turned around to the stage and there it was, so beautiful. It was silver, big and I think it was heavy by the looks of it. I couldn't take my eyes of it.
Then Mr Burt said stand up and we all stood up and we sang the National Anthem then Mr Burt said sit down.

Holidays.

In the holidays my brother,cousin and I went to Sylvia Park to buy some clothes for my cousin because she was going back to American Samoa.

When we got there we went to many shops. We walked around and around like we were walking around Auckland. I was huffing and puffing like we had just run a marathon. I felt like fainting. We went to a lot of shops and it got really boring.

Then we went past Foot lockers. I looked at a shoe. I wanted it so badly. When I was looking at the shoe it was like an angel because it was so so beautiful. I couldn't believe my eyes. My eyes couldn't stop looking at it but anyway I didn't have enough money. So I walked away.

We walked and walked and walked and the I saw a lolly shop. Some men were making lollies. It was like they were putting on a show. They were very clever and I think they were professional. Then it was time to go home.

At the end of the day we went home and I had some fun. It was a very long tiring day. I think my cousin had fun exploring Sylvia Park and I felt great that we were back home but I kind of miss my cousin.

Speech

THUMP as the ball falls to the ground. It goes over the 20 meter mark. Vili jumps for joy as she knows she has won the gold medal for New Zealand for shot put.

Valerie is a hard worker and is determined to do her best. She is 23 years old. She won her gold medal recently when she represented New Zealand at the Beijing Olympics for the shot put competition. She was born in Rotorua. She started her sport at the age of 14. Whenever she has an achievement in her sport or when she wins a trophy she dedicates it to her parents that had died and unfortunately her dad died not long ago. Vili's job is she is an assistant sport coordinator at Macleans collge. Her job helps her with her traning.

What Makes Her A Champion.

Valerie Vili became a champion by training. She had a long year build towards the Beijing olympics. She is always focused to succsed. She lifts weight dumbells she goes to the gym neally every day to keep fit. Valerie puts her legs in the right place to throw well by perfecting her technique. Every day shes trains really really hard.

Attitude\Qualites

When Valerie was competing she always thought of her parents. She is able to concertrate and focus really well. Vili says she just goes in and smash the first one she means she is better than all of them. She is competeve she is meataly tough. She is a natural athelete

The B.A.R key.

Not long ago the extension group came together and we did a B.A.R key. If you don't know what a B.A.R key is well I will explain it. A B.A.R key is , is when someone gets a picture and you write down what you would make Bigger, Add, and Replace. For example say there was a beehive. You would write down B.A.R then you would write down what you make bigger , add and replace on the picture of the beehive.

Go For Green- Train Crows

The extension group was getting ready for a conference with Joshua Klein in 2 days time. We studied him and we watched Ted Talks. He was trying to tell people that crows are very useful. They can use crows to find lost people and pick up rubbish.

We watched videos that showed crows doing really great things. Like a crow being clever enough to drop a nut in the middle of the traffic so it could be cracked open by the cars. When the red lights go on the crows will go really fast and get there food. Then there was another video that showed a bird named [Betty] making a hook and pulling out the meat.

After that Joshua told us a story about his Friend wanting to ERADICATE or[ kill] the crows because they were a pest. He told us that they were having a party and the crows were annoying his friend. So his friend said that they should eradicate the birds. They didn't kill the crows. So Joshua spend the next 10 years reading about crows in his spare time.

Joshua proved to people that crows can be useful and be helpful.

Cross Country

Can we stop now I'm exhausted I can barely can feel my legs" I moaned to Sela

From Monday to Thursday we have been training for a whole week. We have been training for our school cross country in a few weeks time. The senior school have been doing 2 laps and some people do 3 or 4 laps a week.

Then when it was room 15's turn we started to run. At first it was crowded with people because there were heaps of people. There was a lot of pushing and squeezing. I was struggling to get my way through. Finally I got my way out and I kept on running. When we were running around the school twice it was tiring!! I kept on stopping. I was sweaty like a waterfall on my second lap. Sometimes when I am sweating I felt like I was dehydrated. My tongue was so dried and my throat was sore.

It felt like my legs were going to come off. I couldn't stop. Finally I finished.

So my goals are not necessarily to come first but to improve. I need to work on pacing myself and on trying to beat my time.

Immersion assembly

WOW is that Michel Jordan wait it is Valerie Adams the women who won the greatest shout put women in New Zealand? Oh no that is just Mrs Squires and Mrs Tele'a.

" WOW " This morning at assembly was very interesting when at our Immersion assembley was very interesting when I saw all the teachers dressed up in different kinds of costumes. One looked like Michel Jordan which was Mrs Squires.

The best group was team 3.It was so funny because Mr Nev had a big stomach and Miss Walters wanted to be a wannabie Walters wanted to be a wannabie Walters and Miss Mackinlay was from Greece.Mr Nev Miss Walters and Miss Mackinlay had a race but Miss Walters came 1st but there was alot of cheating and alot of pushing.

Our topic for this term is WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS. We are learning this because the BEIJING OLYMPICS is coming up in a few weeks time.So Beatrice ,Valerie ,Georgina ,Caroline Sarah and Barbara better get training before the big game.

In a few weeks time the Olympic is going to come on T.V.It is going to be exciting. I think the hardest game is the triathlon that Hamish Carter does but this year he is not competing.

The other reason why we are leaning about "WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS" is because we are having Cross Country in a few weeks time. So from now on we have been practising around our school.So my goals not to necessarily to come first but to improve.

When I grow up I want to be a champion like Valerie Vili.

Motat

We walked through the door and saw Richard Pearse and Jean Batten's planes. Richard Pearse's plane was really old. It was made out of metal and wood. The plane looked like junk as it was rusty. It also looked like a sort of bicycle. Richard Pearse's plane was different from the planes today.
We saw his plane when Room 15 went to Motat (Museum of Transport and Technology) on Thursday because the senior school were discovering about how things fly.
As I looked around I noticed Jean Batten's medals and an article about her. The only thing I knew about her was that she was the first person to fly between England and Australia. Suddenly I saw the biggest trophy I had ever seen before. The trophy was shiny and spectacular. I just wanted to touch it but we were not allowed to. Then on the other side of the trophy were Jean Batten's medals. There were heaps of them. In an article I saw it said that said she had died. It was very sad.
After a while we went to the Hands On Area. It was so cool because there was an earthquake room. It was rumbling and tumbling from side to side. It was like I was surfing on water in Australia. It was so fun I just couldn't get off. When I got off it was like people were pulling me off. As soon as got off I noticed something silver shiny and something spinning around it was the spinner. In a flash I was already there. I started spinning around and around in circles.
Then it was time to go to Motat 2. This man whose name was Frazer came and got us he knew everything about planes. He showed a bomber plane. All of a sudden he showed us a boat plane. There was a boat plane because there was no airport so when they land they will float on water. It was so intersting. After that we made airfoils. Then we went into the wind tunnel. It was so cold I got the flu.
After a long while on this sunny hot day we got on the bus and went home.

HOT AIR BALLOON

WOW what a fantastic surprise for PT England school. When the trailer came in with the baskets and the hot air balloon we were all excited.When we went to the court we were waiting for all of the equipment to come. Finally all the equipment arrived and we were excited to see it.
They got out a fan.They filled up the big balloon with cold air. When it was rising it looked like an ocean because it was billowing like the waves..
As they were blowing it up we looked inside it and it was like being in a big room. It was so big it could have fitted many people in it.When it was lying down it looked like a big blanket that could fit a football team under it. It also looked like a humongous bouncy castle.
After it was up they brought in the burners. They sounded like waves crashing and it also sounded like the KING OF the JUNGLE ROARING. They looked like a big fire. The hot air balloon couldn't go up to far because it was tethered to the car and also to the man with a harness on. It looked like he was rock climbing because he was leaning onto the rope.
